Finding Our Vendors: Sometimes being Offbeat still requires normal wedding stuff

So, to break down the "needed" vendors:

  • Venue
  • Caterer
  • Photographer
  • Videographer
  • DJ
  • Band
  • Rentals
  • Florist
  • Baker

How we are tweaking our list to save money:

  • Venue: CRMII ($1400): unavoidable cost--having our wedding here wasn't even a discussion. It was silently agreed upon. It is just too important to us.
  • Caterer: Rebecca's Cafe--corporate caterer. They don't usually do weddings, but ours is very non-traditional and consequently we can get away with a non-wedding caterer. We are having a breakfast buffet, using disposables which are included for free and limiting our open bar to select drinks. We are also making some quiche to augment the buffet selections.
  • Photographer: In the works. We are discussing possible prices with Studio Nouveau in Waltham. We have decided to limit the professional photos to four hour--half hour before the ceremony and into the beginning of the reception. We are going to encourage guests to bring digital cameras, and we are also going to get Wedding Snap which allows guests to snap photos and they are streamed together in real time in one place. You can also project images as they are taken! It is about $100, but we figure it is cheaper than hiring a photographer for the entire day.
  • Videographer: Nope. I'm going to have my dad set up a video camera to get some footage of the ceremony. We might ask a friend who is good with videography if he is interested in taking some footage during the reception--just the dances and such. But technology is too readily available for us to even consider paying someone to tape our wedding.
  • DJ: iPod. We are going to make our own playlists, rent some equipment and my cousin is going to play "semi-DJ" and emcee. He is outgoing and it will be fun.
  • Band: See this entry here.
  • Rentals: We will need to rent chairs, sound equipment and possibly a bar. We haven't decided on this one yet.
  • Florist: NONE. We are making paper flowers out of scrapbooking paper and book pages. My bouquet is a brooch bouquet.
  • Baker: We are either having a friend bake cupcakes, or we are baking cookies.
