Non-traditional and Science-y Readings

It has been difficult--though fun--trying to find nontraditional readings for our wedding. So I will post some gems that I found here. I will not, however, reveal what we will be using for our ceremony. Some things need to remain a surprise! We are going to do 2 longer readings and then a selection of quotes that will be read by certain guests.

“I will love you forever; whatever happens. Until I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, until I find you again.” ~Philip Pullman, The Amber Spyglass

"There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness." ~Friedrich Nietzsche

I'd made myself believe that I was fine and happy and fulfilled on my own without the love of anyone else. Being in love was like China: you knew it was there, and no doubt it was very interesting, and some people went there, but I never would. I'd spend all my life without ever going to China, but it wouldn't matter, because there was all the rest of the world to visit... And I thought: am I really going to spend the rest of my life without feeling that again? I thought: I want to go to China. It's full of treasures and strangeness and mysteries and joy.” ~Philip Pullman, The Amber Spyglass

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. ” ~When Harry Met Sally

“Oh, Will,' she said, 'What can we do? Whatever can we do? I want to live with you forever. I want to kiss you and lie down with you and wake up with you every day of my life till I die, years and years and years away. I don't want a memory, just a memory...”~Philip Pullman, The Amber Spyglass

I like you because
I don't know why but
Everything that happens
Is nicer with you...
On the fourth of July
I like you because it's the Fourth of July
On the Fifth of July I like you too
If you and I had some drums
And some horns and some horses
If we had some hats and some
Flags and some fire engines
We could be a HOLIDAY
We could be a CELEBRATION
We could be a WHOLE PARADE
...Even if it was August...
Even if it was no place particular in January
I would go on choosing you
And you would go on choosing me
Over and over again
That's how it would happen every time
I don't know why
I guess I don't know why I like you really
Why do I like you?
I guess I just like you.
I just guess I do. ~I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg

“She wondered whether there would ever come an hour in her life when she didn't think of him -- didn't speak to him in her head, didn't relive every moment they'd been together, didn't long for his voice and his hands and his love. She had never dreamed of what it would feel like to love someone so much; of all the things that had astonished her in her adventures, that was what astonished her the most. She thought the tenderness it left in her heart was like a bruise that would never go away, but she would cherish it forever.” ~Philip Pullman

Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.~Albert Einstein

“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” ~Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

“I love you. You annoy me more than I ever thought possible, but… I want to spend every irritating minute with you.” ~Scrubs

"Love me when I least deserve it, because that's when I really need it." ~Swedish Proverb

“We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” ~Robert Fulghum

"Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."~ Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights

This was the Scavenger Hunt, always the most troublesome and feared part of any wedding… But every setback only made us more determined. Scared? Sure, sometimes, but we had each other. That must be what it's all about, we thought: As long as we stick together, nothing can stop us! Tales of Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan

And this little charmer:

Calvin: Hobbes, What's it like to fall in love?
Hobbes: Well… say the object of your affection walks by…
Calvin: Yeah?
Hobbes: First, your heart falls into your stomach and splashes your innards. All the moisture makes you sweat profusely. This condensation shorts the circuits to your brain and you get all woozy. When your brain burns out altogether, your mouth disengages and you babble like a cretin until she leaves.
Calvin: THAT'S LOVE?!?
Hobbes: Medically speaking.
Calvin: Heck, that happened to me once, but I figured it was cooties!

"The old argument," he said softly. "Bit nothing I have seen in the world has supported your pronouncements that love is more powerful than my kind of magic, Dumbledore."
"Perhaps you have been looking in the wrong places." ~Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling

Dumbledore would have been happier than anyone to know there was a little more love in the world." ~Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling
